The year my dream of becoming a foster parent was brought to fruition. Nearly 20 years ago the desire was born and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have welcomed not one, but two precious babies into my home. I have so much to share but I'll just need to find the time. For now I will leave you with a few photos. Life is busy, beautiful, and so very complex. Thanking God for the peace I can find in him. Happy New Year!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfNRLDQJ4W2wJzPtUAksk516Vz4TAp6z1DYJEn50d6j25WnDswe6VrwjPNCNxPg2mg722-BkJ7KSAoe_Pj2G0383QSWydlGVgpxSLzDfFP1U_h0chQSZKYMNar_VmotyZ84u_yBp2mWa_CRPwk_cLeo5CWbqWDTvzqRZ_uNJ7AwbzTRTKkwFjQo0Ze/s2260/20221.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1666" data-original-width="2260" height="472" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfNRLDQJ4W2wJzPtUAksk516Vz4TAp6z1DYJEn50d6j25WnDswe6VrwjPNCNxPg2mg722-BkJ7KSAoe_Pj2G0383QSWydlGVgpxSLzDfFP1U_h0chQSZKYMNar_VmotyZ84u_yBp2mWa_CRPwk_cLeo5CWbqWDTvzqRZ_uNJ7AwbzTRTKkwFjQo0Ze/w640-h472/20221.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTeBBRfgA62oM3U52DtrYJDuCZIO3j5TbFT1CiJZxJTt1wRuGKWGLbu9v4nQJaWtW1r7nkNcc5f7UCu2r9rI0trywKD6sAKSujjEHeQcNfcrV66e5IOz_CEFqUFAomixH9xvUGfx6BBBqGUkEY3wkkfOj6O9-gcSEqFh6KJjy0yBalF_bGvLcW5r2/s2241/20222.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1679" data-original-width="2241" height="495" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTeBBRfgA62oM3U52DtrYJDuCZIO3j5TbFT1CiJZxJTt1wRuGKWGLbu9v4nQJaWtW1r7nkNcc5f7UCu2r9rI0trywKD6sAKSujjEHeQcNfcrV66e5IOz_CEFqUFAomixH9xvUGfx6BBBqGUkEY3wkkfOj6O9-gcSEqFh6KJjy0yBalF_bGvLcW5r2/w752-h495/20222.jpg" width="752" /></a><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Kqf2VVI7EADQrGaxNn3BSpWO3Y2zfUyl_OSa9Vqepcndkoq6mBPMQbkcX40m1KBGuuXUw_8Z6GtODAR7eUZxPJMtOf0974TWpAKPArZVSFvh5miOS6AqKo_YE1X_EA7LEr-mYGrI2dTuobrNES3ZqjbiIHFlczq6fRnl0ECgac4Di0R-SegZYXVq/s2260/2022.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1672" data-original-width="2260" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Kqf2VVI7EADQrGaxNn3BSpWO3Y2zfUyl_OSa9Vqepcndkoq6mBPMQbkcX40m1KBGuuXUw_8Z6GtODAR7eUZxPJMtOf0974TWpAKPArZVSFvh5miOS6AqKo_YE1X_EA7LEr-mYGrI2dTuobrNES3ZqjbiIHFlczq6fRnl0ECgac4Di0R-SegZYXVq/w640-h474/2022.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Estherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03028855183777858268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445620893274844538.post-56385235491916415062022-01-31T22:13:00.003-08:002022-01-31T22:13:57.884-08:00A place for photos<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEipQtKQyqvx6QwTJ05JnlmxeGCFCFZ0E8C5yhk9x4xazkdewzT2homamyFT2zI67sfRfyPiDIxSTChwqPx3z7Wxxb4wX_oLr4NNl05VTe7LR7TEnI30ARjMK_ipGUTCrCbxx1o4dGby_mumRQz-neNNkMCrUTie2GjIUfIE14OoVRVpRl-7xRsQqsb2=s3467" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3467" data-original-width="2599" height="863" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEipQtKQyqvx6QwTJ05JnlmxeGCFCFZ0E8C5yhk9x4xazkdewzT2homamyFT2zI67sfRfyPiDIxSTChwqPx3z7Wxxb4wX_oLr4NNl05VTe7LR7TEnI30ARjMK_ipGUTCrCbxx1o4dGby_mumRQz-neNNkMCrUTie2GjIUfIE14OoVRVpRl-7xRsQqsb2=w647-h863" width="647" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhaI7T6LSx3OK3f1AoYhnZ7wYApqwHNPNeN4LYFs2WrUG85F3CsX2QHPMT-s32oKmYNv9oCh94k8sO7os5HaCub45R3NOsD6hF3ysYmmNutu6acO1ghnsJeEaf3BgBQ9FKGm9q2a4EvztrIBgiUuCMKA5WFIW9oRCG9ov7huDWuo4-c127nCQ153IXd=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="859" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhaI7T6LSx3OK3f1AoYhnZ7wYApqwHNPNeN4LYFs2WrUG85F3CsX2QHPMT-s32oKmYNv9oCh94k8sO7os5HaCub45R3NOsD6hF3ysYmmNutu6acO1ghnsJeEaf3BgBQ9FKGm9q2a4EvztrIBgiUuCMKA5WFIW9oRCG9ov7huDWuo4-c127nCQ153IXd=w643-h859" width="643" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEikudYGZjPv4GLeTGcMwvabXZ939RnJbQ0lmTi5ut5C7n0tYHAp1-jyAck5Ja-1ZmrRehhCM7v7yYzB43Zg9tPAet4Hq0VzbgjQRbXwhkH8dFEekQtbNrB_9F2E-afqZOUHWGnufMxUymTzHvlbhVIb4r84ekvJmognbPCWlsk_ITiZHGJuKeiR2H3I=s2742" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2742" data-original-width="2742" height="639" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEikudYGZjPv4GLeTGcMwvabXZ939RnJbQ0lmTi5ut5C7n0tYHAp1-jyAck5Ja-1ZmrRehhCM7v7yYzB43Zg9tPAet4Hq0VzbgjQRbXwhkH8dFEekQtbNrB_9F2E-afqZOUHWGnufMxUymTzHvlbhVIb4r84ekvJmognbPCWlsk_ITiZHGJuKeiR2H3I=w639-h639" width="639" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Hoping to start posting again! My heart is heavy with so many emotions. I feel deep sorrow knowing his time on earth has seized but by God's good grace I mostly feel overwhelming gratitude for the blessing he will always be to me.<br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKXhF_H8wHA/XtVzNdCROFI/AAAAAAAARmI/uAOTb-gR3XsZUJN7HfRdC17d8XbyG9rQgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC_0030.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKXhF_H8wHA/XtVzNdCROFI/AAAAAAAARmI/uAOTb-gR3XsZUJN7HfRdC17d8XbyG9rQgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DSC_0030.jpg" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1067" /></a>
My Papi was a strong, hardworking, and capable man. His life was full of adventure and he shared the most incredible stories. He had an amazing memory and recalled everything with great detail. Some tales seemed so unbelievable but upon further investigation proved to be true. His adventures could fill a book. He was a vaquero. Born and raised in a small adobe house in Tepehuanes,Durango Mexico. He was the true Patriarch of the Carrera family as he was the only boy out of his 5 brothers to reach adulthood. He was deeply loved and respected by his 5 little sisters and was looked up to by many of his family members. He immigrated to the United States as a single man in his early twenties and worked fields of Missouri , slaughterhouses in Chicago, and on railroads in Oregon and California before spending a few years in Santa Barbara working in various restaurants. He finally settled in Los Angeles buying a home near his extended family. He worked very hard to make a life for his children here. I admire his stamina and strength. His work and dedication to his family are inspiring. How fortunate I am to know his love.<br>

Here are a few things I never want to forget about my dear Papi.<br>
<br>
1. He ALWAYS wore jeans, a buttoned up longsleeve shirt, belt, and a hat. When I was a child it was always a cowboy hat but in my adult years he was often seen with a baseball cap.<br>
2. The way he would skillfully slice an orange with a pocket knife like a butcher cutting meat.<br>
3. He was always laughing and joking with my Abuelita and his children. He knew how to have a good time.<br>
4. He treated all my cousins like we were his favorite. He had a way of making you feel very special. He ALWAYS greeted the girls with, "Hi mi reina!" (Hi my queen)<br>
5. When I would tell him I love him. He would theatrically respond with a smile and an expressive I love youuuuuu!<br>
6. The way he would sit on his comfy chair and quietly observe his family as we all gathered in his home.<br>
7. Being in the back of his truck as we drove from West Covina to Chino to stay with him and my Abuelita for the night.<br>
8. Him sitting in his garage on incredibly hot days in his jeans and long sleeve shirt listening to Pedro Infante or Javier Solis.<br>
9. How he was well loved by so many. My Papi and Abuelita often had visitors. Their relatives and friends would sit and spend hours chatting away with my Papi.<br>
10. How proud he was to take pictures with his 16 grandchildren.<br>
<br>
I think most of all I will miss his two handed kisses. The ways he would grab my face before planting a big kiss on my cheek. I will miss his scruffy mustache and the way he would pull me in close for a hug and pat me on the back.<br>
<br>
Thank you Lord for blessing my life with a kind and loving Papi. I know that I am very privileged to be loved and cared by him well into my adult life. Thank you Lord, thank you!<br>

Pinterest, blogs, and Instagram have been huge sources of inspiration. I thought I'd share the these with the community of makers I enjoy so much. I hope these inspire you to create something special for the little ones in your lives. I've listed some of the project patterns below.<br>

The quilt was made with scrap fabric from many outfits I had sewn for it's recipient. It made the simple block quilt extra special. / Backpack <a href="http://hartandsew.blogspot.com/2012/09/back-to-school-backpack-tutorial.html"><b>tutorial</b></a> / I didn't use a pattern for the conchas, pasta, and tea bags. I found lots of great inspiration for these on Pinterest / The doll I made years ago with a pattern I drafted but Lakeside Needle works just realesed an adorable doll <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/644954028/jane-doll-pdf-sewing-pattern?ref=shop_home_active_7&crt=1"><b>pattern</b></a>. I'm itching to make one.<br>

The cape was based off this <a href="https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-1035-childs-wonder-woman-supergirl--batgirl-costumes/"><b>pattern</b></a> One of my favorite things about gift giving is the wrapping. After putting so much time and effort into making a gift I delight in wrapping it up! Here are a few of my favorite wrapping ideas.
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bB8aoXSFwDU/XA6hjeHCQAI/AAAAAAAAOTA/MJWdl2G7I_QA486v8BPOhq1MB_QOqGnVwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_1494.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bB8aoXSFwDU/XA6hjeHCQAI/AAAAAAAAOTA/MJWdl2G7I_QA486v8BPOhq1MB_QOqGnVwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_1494.JPG" data-original-width="1200" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
This is one of my favorite handmade toys I've made. It's a felt birthday cake with removable decorations. You can remove the cake lid to store all the pieces. This gift was time consuming but probably the most affordable to make. The cake container was a thrift find and the the felt cost about $8.<br>
<br>
I know I have quite a few more toys to share but that's all I have time for now. Hopefully I can continue to add to the list. I just want to get the list to you before Christmas so you can attempt some of these projects. I hope you feel inspired to make a few gifts this year.<br>
<br>
Happy Christmas!<br>

I prepared a giant charcuterie and cheese platter for him. He loves cured meats and cheeses just as much as I do. During my travels in Europe last month I bought marcona almonds from Spain, fig jam from France, and creamed honey from England. I knew they would all come together to make a lovely birthday platter for him. I had every intention of documenting the projects I had been working on but unfortunately, as always, time quickly slipped by.<br><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MkK-J3uBEC0/WmVWeAN7hWI/AAAAAAAAECk/1cfYaKuHTBAeGzG0DiP9f6suQ7uD_bRBQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2391.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MkK-J3uBEC0/WmVWeAN7hWI/AAAAAAAAECk/1cfYaKuHTBAeGzG0DiP9f6suQ7uD_bRBQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2391.JPG" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
The past few years I have made a great effort to not fall into the typical American commercial Christmas. I wanted to make gifts that are meaningful and well thought out. Not everything I gifted was handmade by me but I'm proud to say quite a few were. <br>
<br>
This kind of gift giving is so much more personal and satisfying to me. First you decide what to make. Which often enough is the real challenge. Then you take the time to go out and gather supplies. Choosing the perfect yarn or fabrics is one of my favorite parts. Lastly is the construction of the item. This is where the perseverance and patience comes in. It's when you sit and think of the one you are creating for. What are they doing now? Will they like it?... I make for those I love so it's always nice to sit and think of them. Perhaps it's the best part of all.<br>
<br>
This year I made my grams a beautiful lace shawl knit with gorgeous wool from Scotland. I couldn't help but think about how much she would love it. She's my biggest fan. I've always felt so encouraged by her kind comments on all my creations. She flatters me endlessly. What a joy it was to make her something I knew she would truly appreciate.<br>
<br>
I hope you all will consider making a few gifts for loved ones. It just might bless you as much as it does them. <br>Estherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03028855183777858268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445620893274844538.post-23134046927791329612017-04-15T15:24:00.001-07:002018-01-09T09:00:59.763-08:00BrightonToday I spent the day exploring one of my favorite seaside villages. The weather was cold and cloudy with sporadic bits of sun. Fortunately I caught the sunshine while watching the waves. I laid on the pebbly beach and basked in the sun for nearly an hour. That was probably the highlight of my day. I was also able to visit a lovely yarn shop, have some fish n' chips and delicious cup of tea. Happy Saturday!Estherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03028855183777858268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445620893274844538.post-7546200166082132552017-01-15T20:23:00.000-08:002017-01-15T20:23:53.600-08:00Mish MashI have finally uploaded all the photos that I have let sit on my camera card for months. 13 months to be exact. The thing is I rarely use my slr camera anymore. I'll snap a photo here are there, and then set my camera down to collect dust for weeks. With that being said there was an assortment of random photos in the card dump. Here are a few that made me smile. <br><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CKK58I43q4w/WHxHyOqMZ-I/AAAAAAAAD_w/dgohWMx8BMIT32g03XTypIWx5AW2Y7pAgCLcB/s1600/2016.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CKK58I43q4w/WHxHyOqMZ-I/AAAAAAAAD_w/dgohWMx8BMIT32g03XTypIWx5AW2Y7pAgCLcB/s1600/2016.jpg" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yIBys9taIos/WHxH1vvC7DI/AAAAAAAAD_4/R_-APN0umTkTWU-3A2xir0voCAJv6nwBQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0213.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yIBys9taIos/WHxH1vvC7DI/AAAAAAAAD_4/R_-APN0umTkTWU-3A2xir0voCAJv6nwBQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0213.JPG" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PjB1LJCIPI/WHxH1Gp2KPI/AAAAAAAAD_0/vEaXZ-rp0Is9jjC7jihsfXJ35O9IVI4DwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0215.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PjB1LJCIPI/WHxH1Gp2KPI/AAAAAAAAD_0/vEaXZ-rp0Is9jjC7jihsfXJ35O9IVI4DwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0215.JPG" /></a><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTl4ciakiYU/WHxH1_xDoWI/AAAAAAAAD_8/hyYZucL4uBw9F1jwQqdZjLYbuUibY3BeQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0218.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTl4ciakiYU/WHxH1_xDoWI/AAAAAAAAD_8/hyYZucL4uBw9F1jwQqdZjLYbuUibY3BeQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0218.JPG" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FW_VNVghQRQ/WHxH4rso78I/AAAAAAAAEAA/xu7vKw5mgqQaRnOMGdoclOCgFfbF5zgmQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0276.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FW_VNVghQRQ/WHxH4rso78I/AAAAAAAAEAA/xu7vKw5mgqQaRnOMGdoclOCgFfbF5zgmQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0276.JPG" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3ns5t-9R25U/WHxH5PZoWII/AAAAAAAAEAE/X-mtIEx5_6gfhzmj1YH7OlRFPHET9t3dwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0478.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3ns5t-9R25U/WHxH5PZoWII/AAAAAAAAEAE/X-mtIEx5_6gfhzmj1YH7OlRFPHET9t3dwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0478.JPG" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jBmMUzkSPaU/WHxH74yamEI/AAAAAAAAEAM/9uLCyVUoeoApw8t29fzvWtt71SXujng3QCLcB/s1600/DSC_0668.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jBmMUzkSPaU/WHxH74yamEI/AAAAAAAAEAM/9uLCyVUoeoApw8t29fzvWtt71SXujng3QCLcB/s1600/DSC_0668.JPG" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xNeFWHzZhNg/WHxH8oG45cI/AAAAAAAAEAQ/1Al0006aIiQg0fX3NYh4rBGhuyS1T7t0wCLcB/s1600/DSC_0703.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xNeFWHzZhNg/WHxH8oG45cI/AAAAAAAAEAQ/1Al0006aIiQg0fX3NYh4rBGhuyS1T7t0wCLcB/s1600/DSC_0703.JPG" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RCel5jAMvw0/WHxH8sf1BJI/AAAAAAAAEAU/D-S6YkI-7gk-BQT03wdSXT0uUB_Kn625gCLcB/s1600/DSC_0779.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RCel5jAMvw0/WHxH8sf1BJI/AAAAAAAAEAU/D-S6YkI-7gk-BQT03wdSXT0uUB_Kn625gCLcB/s1600/DSC_0779.JPG" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pr8FeLmy5so/WHxH5bsC_vI/AAAAAAAAEAI/ANuOahI0LScciCgbwYReSrZd2tXfy8IYwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0628.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pr8FeLmy5so/WHxH5bsC_vI/AAAAAAAAEAI/ANuOahI0LScciCgbwYReSrZd2tXfy8IYwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0628.JPG" /></a>

It's been awhile. Hard to believe we are at the edge of July. It's been a busy month and I have much to share but for now I'll leave you with photos of the most recent happenings. I've been working in Detroit this week. It's my first time here so I've been enjoying exploring. During the day I've been taking in the kid friendly sites (libraries, parks, and zoos) with the littles but in the evening I've been able to treat myself to a few great meals. I haven't taken too many photos but I hope to on my day off this weekend. For now I leave you with some photos of the pretty flowers around the city and the adorable ice cream and pie shops I came across. And of course a couple of knitting photos as usual. I'm slowly, and I mean very slowly, making progress on a hat I'm knitting. It's very tedious and time consuming but it's for someone I love very much. So it's worth it,right?! I really really hope they like it. I'm like 8 hours in and I'm not halfway.<br>

I haven't been doing much sewing lately but my hands have been occupied with knitting and baking. I'm sure as the weather continues to warm I'll swap the hot knitting needles for my sewing machine. I'm hoping to work up some summer dresses for myself. I've got to take a few little day trips which has been quite nice. These days I'm daydreaming of a long scenic road trip up the coast. Hoping I can make that one happen in the months to come. And as usual, I'm forever longing for time in Europe. Oh to explore some place foreign again. I'm always saving my pennies for some sort of European adventure. Who knows where I'll find myself this year or next. Here are some things I captured with it recently. Mostly knitting and a few other things that are worthy of note. Currently i'm working on a tricolored linen/wool shawl. I just started knitting up the border. I'm looking forward to blocking it and sharing the results.Happy Wednesday dear friends. <br>

These pieces are special to me for various reasons. A few are knit with yarn I acquired on trips to Europe. They are sweet reminders of the beautiful places i've traveled. For example, the brown shawl on the left was knit with un-dyed wool from native british sheep. I purchased it on a perfectly sunny day in <a href="http://esthermarquis.blogspot.com/2015/10/bits-of-london-brighton.html">Brighton</a>, UK. I'm pretty sure I day dreamed about the english countryside the entire time I knit it up. Other pieces are special because I learned a new skill while working on them. And then some of them have become rather dear because of the sense of accomplishment I felt after completing them. I never really thought my hands would be capable of creating such interesting things. But with a little determination and lots of patience I am pleasantly surprised by what can be made. If I can do it, you can do it too! I hope to encourage you all to work with your hands. Set your computer down and try to attain a skill that doesn't involve technology. There are so many amazing skills/crafts out there. Just give one a go.

Such great satisfaction I get from giving new life to something that was disposed of. I found this sweater at the thrift store and loved the look of the wool. I took it home and decided to make it into something new. Above are photos of some of the steps it took me to get to my final product.
<br>
<br>
In the American culture we seem to buy far more then we actually need. Things are no longer made to last and many people purchase items based on there slim price rather then quality. It leaves our country full of poorly made junk that then fills our thrift stores and dumps. But once in awhile you thrift and find a real gem. I've been collecting from thrift stores since I was a teenager. I look for vintage. I figure if I find something 50 years old I'm sure it will last another 50+ years. I think it's so important to invest in pieces of clothing and other belongings that will have longevity. I believe our culture needs to be more aware of what we buy and who makes it. The incredibly poor wages and work environments of many employed by international clothing manufactures are absolutely heartbreaking. This is something that many people are completely unaware of. But that's a whole different issue for another post. Let's get back to knitting...
<br>
<br>
The process of reusing wool and knitting is very time consuming. Because of the time that goes into it I am naturally inclined to take better care of my handmade items. It gives it them much value. I hope to continue to hone my clothing construction skills so that I will one day be nearly self sufficient in my own wardrobe and the wardrobes of the children I dream of having. I have a long way to go but I know it can be done.

Hard to believe it's 2016. Well let's see what's new. My year ended like it started -with loads of knitting. November and December were spent working on Christmas gifts for family and friends. I made David an Icelandic sweater that had me dreaming of being in Iceland the whole time. One day!<br> <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sMduLT1IbT0/VpWbk6X3Z9I/AAAAAAAAD4Y/IcoT30tzxCs/s1600/esthercarrera.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sMduLT1IbT0/VpWbk6X3Z9I/AAAAAAAAD4Y/IcoT30tzxCs/s1600/esthercarrera.jpg" /></a>
<br>On another note.
<br>
I've been going through a serious creative block. I hope it's on it's way out because I'm getting real restless in my sewing space. I need to find things that will fuel my creative side. Perhaps a roadtrip...
<br>
<br>
Happy Tuesday friends!

As you can see by the photos I have returned from Europe. I've been home for about a month and I'm already dreaming of another trip. Oh the joy of seeing different parts of the world! Time to start saving up again.
<br>
<br>
I'm getting back into the swing of things around here. I've just started to do a little sewing again and I'm almost always knitting. I can never seem to keep my hands still. So when I can I sit and I knit. I've also been doing a bit of baking, but not nearly enough. It's important that I bake often so that I don't lose the skills that I once worked so hard to attain whilst in school.
<br>
<br>
Below are a few snaps from this weekend. Life is good, God is great, and today my heart is full. I hope the same for you. <br>

Perfect weather, the best people, and delightful food. Lately I've been doing a lot of eating, drinking (loads of tinto de Verano and cafe), and napping. I'm on vacation so this is acceptable, right?! It's funny back home I never take naps. But here in Spain it's a must. If I miss a siesta I don't seem to function quite right. Oh the Spanish life! So very different then my own. I must say I have also been doing quite a lot of walking and hiking. Today I made the trek up to the city's castle. It's a really beauty. It blows me a way to see such an old fortress still standing. It really was built to last. As always I snapped photos. <br>

I just realized I didn't get any good photos of the castle itself. I was mostly shooting from the top down. Hopefully I can snap some tomorrow before I leave for Barcelona! I hope to be back with BCN photos Thursday!

I arrived in Xativa yesterday afternoon after a long morning of travel. I took a taxi to the train station, a train to the airport, a flight to Valencia, the metro to Estació del Nord, a train to Xativa, and then I walked to my dear friends home! They welcomed me with delicious meal and a siesta. Just what I needed. In the morning we sat and ate together and then I wandered around the city for a bit. Came home ate again and then another siesta. Nice and simple. Life is good. God is good! <br><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eSgfwJIQyQ4/VhWWf2-e2GI/AAAAAAAAD0k/NPKFGvOYL2g/s1600/CBTS1587.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eSgfwJIQyQ4/VhWWf2-e2GI/AAAAAAAAD0k/NPKFGvOYL2g/s1600/CBTS1587.jpg" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0QzChiIzF1I/VhWWfnlpmfI/AAAAAAAAD0g/YeOi9tIwdRk/s1600/KQPM3328.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0QzChiIzF1I/VhWWfnlpmfI/AAAAAAAAD0g/YeOi9tIwdRk/s1600/KQPM3328.jpg" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kEV4y1y1x-U/VhWWfaY-fsI/AAAAAAAAD0c/vntlY9hCTWo/s1600/KTKH0078.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kEV4y1y1x-U/VhWWfaY-fsI/AAAAAAAAD0c/vntlY9hCTWo/s1600/KTKH0078.jpg" /></a>.

Sending lots of love to those dear to me. xo <br>Estherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03028855183777858268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445620893274844538.post-81733996416315430622015-10-03T15:59:00.000-07:002015-10-03T15:59:09.801-07:00Hampstead HeathAnother swell day in the UK. I spent the morning at the Heath. I used to love going to visit it when I did a semester of study abroad here. It's such a peaceful and lovely place to sit in or walk around. I'll post more about my day later but for now I must go to bed. I was suppose to take it easy today but I most definitely did not. Now my body is paying for it. I figure i'll rest when I leave London. As for now I must take advantage of every second I am here.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zWCV8ZY79os/VhBcZPmyGfI/AAAAAAAAD0M/Z3_iYQOIpMg/s1600/VJYT3516.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zWCV8ZY79os/VhBcZPmyGfI/AAAAAAAAD0M/Z3_iYQOIpMg/s1600/VJYT3516.jpg" /></a>Estherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03028855183777858268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8445620893274844538.post-26276188572069409012015-10-02T16:37:00.002-07:002015-10-02T16:37:53.298-07:00ExhaustedIt's been non stop exploring since I left for Europe a week ago. I must say I am absolutely exhausted. Gosh I want to see it all but I know there is not nearly enough time. Oh well. I'll just have to get over that. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to take it easy. Will see how that goes though. London is so special to me that thought of missing a favorite spot makes me quite sad. It's been 5 years since I've last been in the city and I don't know when I'll be here again. I sure hope I don't go another 5 year stretch with out coming back… <br>

As for today I spent the morning at my favorite museum, The V & A. After I went to Sketch for Afternoon Tea. This quirky tea room was quite the experience. The food was delightful and the art was enjoyable. Oh and the restrooms were pretty interesting too. See photo with egg shaped pods. Yes those are bathroom stalls. Then I headed to another favorite spot, Loop. It's the most charming yarn shop. I was so excited when I came across it 5 years ago when I did my semester abroad. It's got such a cozy feel! After that it was time to visit Tate Modern. I browsed for a few hours and then went on the hunt for food. Didn't get many photos at the museum because my phone was going to die.<br>

The photos below I snapped well walking to the museum. It was after five on a friday evening so of course all the pubs were packed. England, you are a real treat. <br>

I'm not sure if I have mentioned it here yet but the weather has been phenomenal for the entirety of my trip. Sunny and cool highs around 65 degrees. I mean it's been dreamy. I sure wasn't expecting it. <br>
